THE SHACK

I read a good book and I wanted to share. The book is: THE SHACK- Where Tragedy Confronts Eternity by William P. Young
In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question: Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain? This book may help lead you into a higher understanding, it did me. You can also visit the web site: www.theshackbook.com for The Missy Project
The book is well worth the reading.

God is always present - even during the hurts. There are many reasons for our hurts, our struggles and pain.

I think we have this misguided notion that God is this cosmic genie looking to rescue us from bad situations. Sometimes He will. But many times we are to go through them, just like Israel did for forty years, so we do not bypass the important lessons of life. And if we go through them, and as a direct result, cling closer to Him, was it really a bad situation at all? Because of the goal of life is intimacy with God, then it would not be "bad" from a heavenly perspective.

When my kids are scared, they run to me. That is a bad situation to their little mind. Why would they have to go through that? Well, many times because they cannot see the complete picture. In those times, their father gets to hold them, rock them, and love them more deeply. So I am thankful for those times, for the resulting lessons and the love throughout.
We cling to God most when we are hurting. Its those time that God enjoys us the most.

The book of james is all about responding to adversity and the materials available at www.gty.org are a good resource to read along with.
